The Truce By E. Milan Review

The Truce

By E. Milan

In an instant your life can be over but what happens afterward? This is a question many people ask, for Aaron and Amber there is life after death they both wake up in Purgatory. They can both sit and wait for their chance to be lead to Heaven but when they learn that there may be another way neither one is content to wait. To get to Heaven they must first travel through hell, once they are there though they are pulled into an epic battle two and a half millennia in the making.

I didn’t quite know what to make of this book but the synopsis was interesting enough to grab my attention, the author starts right off in killing his main characters in some cases this is a bad thing but in this case it proved to be an interesting take on the here-after. I am no master of theology so I won’t go into Purgatory or Heaven and Hell that is up to the readers discretion, what I will say is as a work of fiction this novel is along the lines of an epic fantasy including a battle that could only be imagined and is truly fun to read. This isn’t a romance novel the romance itself is shallow and not as heartwarming as it could be but it is a fantastic action adventure.

The Amityville Horror By Jay Anson Review

The Amityville Horror

By Jay Anson

December 18th, 1975 the Lutz family moves into their dream home, purchased at a steal because there had been a gruesome murder in the house. The Lutzes believe a house is just a house and are not afraid to move in, they will not stay more than a month. This is a true account of what happened to the Lutz family the terror that will forever change their lives.

Some of this story I don’t quite believe, such as they thought it strange that the wife woke up in the middle of the night and the next day didn’t remember doing it at all. Well, for me this is something I do all the time since I was a child and people will tell me all sorts of weird things I did or said while I look completely aware and conscious at the time I am still fast asleep, I must be possessed then according to this book. There were other little things that I could easily dismiss as over reactive imagination or any number of things but when it came to floating off the bed, they had me there. Even if these events aren’t real or exaggerated it is a fun read with some truly spooky scenes.

The River Runes by Ken Lindsey Review

The River Runes

By Ken Lindsey

 The River Runes

He has stood in the shadows and observed the village grow into the bustling city but his mother, his ruler, has forbidden him to interact with the people of the town. But mother has been gone for a long time now and his curiosity grows everyday especially where the magicians are concerned. Soon he will build up the courage to venture into the city, but when he does, he unintentionally brings about a war between his people and the humans.

The author manages to create an interesting story full of Fairies and magicians and the coinciding war between these two factions it is so well written and thought out that you can imagine yourself there in the midst of the chaos. With fairies that eat humans and a bloody battle this almost seems to be a man’s book but then the author encompasses romance between some of the characters that is sweet and beautiful adding a different dimension to the book altogether. This novel brings to life the complexities of love and the growth of a young man into a strong warrior, if you are a fan of fantasy, and I do not mean the vampire romance craze, well then you will love this book.

Darkfall by Dean Koontz Review

DarkfallDarkfall

By Dean Koontz

Homicide detective Jack Dawson has been thrown into the middle of a battle between a mafia family and the man who seeks revenge for the death of his brother, this is no ordinary war between factions the man who wants revenge is a Bocor a man who specializes in the the dark side of voodoo. If Jack Dawson does not stop he risks the life of his children and the woman he loves but if he does stop he will never be able to live with himself.

I know that this novel is supposed to be scary but though it is a thriller for sure it is far from scary small rodent like creatures that lurk in the shadows with sharp pointy teeth, creepy yes, but scary no. Dean Koontz is a great writer though, he manages to bring to life these creatures and add to the fact that these people are trapped by a blizzard it is a fun thriller.

Abigail Deane and The Demon’s Gate by L.H. Thomson Review

Abigail Deane and the Demon’s Gate

Abigail Deane Book One

By L.H. Thomson

Abigail’s life has just been turned upside down, her mother was killed and now she must adjust to living with an aunt she never even knew existed in a small town in England a far cry from her home in Chicago. But this is just the beginning of Abigail’s story she soon finds out that she is a sorceress and must learn to control her magic before she becomes the target of a more sinister plot. Shortly after she realizes what she actually is strange things begin occurring and she is pulled into a nightmare that stretches all the way back to ancient Africa and the Holy Land.

L.H. Thomson did a wonderful job bringing this story to life and considering he incorporates such places as London, Spain, and Jerusalem that is a remarkable task in and of itself but with vivid details of the landscape each one is impressive in its own way. The story itself is intriguing though Abigail is recently orphaned she is strong and does her best not to let her own life stop with that of her mother’s as she learns more about her gifts she also learns more about her mother and feels a connection with her that she had never felt before it is truly beautiful. But do not misunderstand my review this far it is not a sappy sort of novel but full of extraordinary twists and enough adventure and action to keep you coming back for more.
